How Often Should You Get a Facial? A Docklands Skincare Guide

For most people, once every four weeks is the sweet spot for facials. That timing matches your skin cell turnover cycle, so each treatment builds on the last. The honest answer, though, is that it depends on your skin and what you want to achieve. Here is how to work out the right frequency for you.

Why four weeks is the usual answer

Skin renews itself roughly every 28 days, a little longer as we get older. A facial supports that cycle by clearing away dead cells and congestion and keeping the skin hydrated. Booking around every four weeks means you are treating fresh skin each time and keeping concerns like breakouts or dullness in check before they build up.

Adjusting for your skin type

  • Oily or breakout-prone skin: every three to four weeks helps keep congestion and oil under control. A shorter 30 minute facility works well for these regular resets.
  • Dry or mature skin: every four weeks, leaning towards the longer 60 minute treatment for deeper hydration and a proper massage element.
  • Sensitive skin: every four to six weeks, kept gentle. More frequent is not better here, since the skin needs time to settle between treatments.
  • Normal, healthy skin: every four to six weeks is plenty to maintain the glow.

Adjusting for your goal

If you are working on a specific concern such as congestion or uneven texture, a closer run of treatments at the start makes sense, then you ease back to maintenance once the skin is where you want it. If you simply want to keep your skin looking healthy and relaxed, a monthly facial is a realistic, sustainable rhythm. And if you have an event coming up, book a facial one to two weeks beforehand rather than the day before, so the skin has time to settle and glow.

What you do at home matters just as much

Facials work best when they support a simple home routine, not replace it. Cleanser, a treatment suited to your skin, moisturiser and daily sunscreen do most of the heavy lifting between visits. Your therapist can tell you what to prioritise at home so you get more out of each facial, and you are welcome to ask.

A simple starting plan

If you are new to facials, start with a 60 minute treatment (from $65) so your skin can be properly assessed, then book a follow-up four weeks later and see how your skin responds. From there you will quickly learn whether three, four or six weeks suits you. There is no single correct number, only the rhythm that keeps your skin looking its best.

Is it bad to get facials too often?

It can be. Over-treating, especially with strong exfoliation, can leave skin irritated and sensitised. Spacing facials to your skin's needs, and keeping sensitive skin to four to six weeks, avoids that.

Can I get a facial on the same visit as my brows or lashes?

Yes, many clients do. Mention it when booking so we allow enough time and plan the order of treatments.
